On June 11, 2025, Orinduik Marine Services proudly launched operations in Guyana, with a commitment to providing world-class subsea services while actively investing in local talent and infrastructure to support the nation’s growing offshore industry.
In remarks, His Excellency Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali, showcased his enthusiasm with the launch. “What we are witnessing here is an investment, [and a series of investments] taking place in our economy that is not going to take us on a plateau of development. It is going to take us on a steep rise long into the future.”
President Ali had also described the launch as a milestone for Guyana, to not only benefit from oil wealth, but to enter a new era with a highly skilled, local workforce. “Sovereignty means having people who can design, operate, and innovate across all sectors, allowing Guyana to prosper long after the year of oil and gas.” Also adding, “You are seeing a classroom on waves. You are seeing training in real-world, high risk, high-value environments. This is your time. This is your moment to prepare, to train, to dream and to ride.”
Mike Arnold, Chief Executive Officer of OMS Subsea, emphasised, “we believe the future of the subsea industry here can, and should be, shaped by Guyanese talent.” Also adding, “Our Guyanese personnel will be trained, developed and rewarded with the same high standards as any international workforce, whether it’s home, whether it’s abroad, they’ll compete shoulder to shoulder to the best in the global business.”
Kenneth Vorster, General Manager of OMS Guyana highlighted at the launch OMS’s dedication to building local capacity, “The investment in personnel, equipment and infrastructure is considerable, so the plan is not short term but to train and empower the people of Guyana.”
OMS founder and Guyanese businessman, Harrychand Tulsi, shared, “The company is piloted by the most competent and experienced technical management team, where the lead managers bring in excess of 120 years of combined experience specific to the field.”
With the official launch and the backing of the Local Content Act, this milestone firmly positions Guyana as an emerging powerhouse in offshore oil and gas services. President Ali remarked, “These investments are geared towards our ultra-deep operation. Everything that will happen in this region – you hear Jamaica speaking about exploration, what is happening in Suriname. Who, in the region, has that in-built capacity and capability now to take the lead. It’s not Trinidad and Tobago. It’s Guyana who is developing that capability and capacity for deep and ultra-deep operations.”
OMS, currently focuses on two critical subsea areas – remotely operated vehicles (ROVs) and diving services. OMS operates a fleet of ROVs globally, through its subsidiaries within the United States, United Kingdom, and Guyana aspiring to provide these services to international oil and gas companies regionally, targeting the Guyana-Suriname basin.
Tulsi furthered this stating, “The initial equipment rollout includes seven ROVs and three dive spreads supported by the Calamar Dive support Vessel and a full battery of accessories and tooling.”
OMS’s CEO explained the bright future for Subsea intervention in Guyana, with the company also exploring fully autonomous vehicles to conduct seabed mapping, pipeline surveys, and ultimately inspection work. Mike Arnold further exclaimed, “These autonomous systems could be operated right here from this facility, whilst collecting data offshore Guyana, or any location around the world.”
His Excellence Mohamed Ifraan Ali stated at the launch, that the Guyanese government is revamping the legislation and administrative process governing the maritime sector to support these investments for the next 30 years. The revamp would ensure that Guyanese companies could compete for global opportunities.
President Ali added, “We are building the most skilled human capital that will go after every opportunity. We are building local companies with the best international partners to go after every world-class opportunity.”
With the full support of the Guyanese President, the future is bright, with various routes of potential growth for Orinduik Marine Services and future subsea engineers of Guyana.
